5 tips about choosing your first pointe shoes

Time to get your first pointe shoe pair? Wondering where to start? Here is a small guide. 1. Schedule a fitting appointment at the biggest ballet shop in your area. If this shop stocks at least 500 pairs of pointe shoes and has a professional pointe shoe fitter - you are in good hands.

Nova by Grishko: tapered, bigger platform, lower heel

NOVA is the next generation of the brand's best-seller Grishko2007. It has preserved the best features of Grishko2007 and complemented them with new ones: quietness - durability - balance - flexibility - lightness - shape stability.

Male pointe shoes? Why?

Male pointe shoes are still something rare and outstanding - and of course not because men cannot do this. On the contrary, my guess is that most of the male ballet dancers never thought about getting pointe shoes... and if they did, they could not find their size anywhere.

V-vamp: a vintage style or a necessity?

Recently, during a pointe shoe fitting webinar, my colleagues and I noticed that the Grishkos once started with the models with a V-vamp box, such as Vaganova and Fouette - and all the newer styles, starting from Grishko2007, have the U-vamp (Triumph, Nova, Dream). Is it a trend? I've heard some customers say that the U-cut has more contemporary look while the V seems "vintage".

Why each Grishko pointe shoes pair is unique and how you can use them...

Have you ever experienced any different feeling while switching from your old pair of pointe shoes to your new one - while the model and the size are exactly the same? Or - if you are going through numerous pairs of pointe shoes - have you ever had a pair that was more comfortable than all the others?

Tribute to Vaganova

If your toes are really long, I think you suffer even when you are trying to buy regular shoes. This is because regular shoes are designed and manufactured for the average toe length. In the picture, both feet are the same length, but the ball of the foot hits a very different place in a shoe. With pointe shoes, it is even more important to find place for your toes in the box (so they won't be in pain) and to place the shank in the right place so it supports your arch sufficiently.

Bunions? Questions, answers, solutions

What's a bunion? If you’re like many people (especially if you are a Greek foot type, when your second toe is longer than the first), your big toe may lean slightly toward your other toes. Over time, the base of the big toe pushes outward against the first metatarsal bone, which is directly behind it.
